Please note that the refinement of draft suitable freshwater aquaculture areas identified for tilapia in South Africa through national-scale GIS screening, has now been completed.
The documents are available for download at the following link https://www.thetilapiasite.co.za/file_list.php (the documents are to be found at the bottom of the page and start with the word ‘SEA’).
It is important to be aware of the fact that the areas indicated for proposed study are exactly that, proposed areas. If you feel that the proposed areas do not accurately reflect where zoning for tilapia aquaculture should be considered, then you must please use the opportunity to provide the CSIR with feedback.
In their covering letter they ask that responses should include the following:
i. Do you agree with the study areas and species identified per province?
ii. Can these areas be investigated further in the SEA?
iii. In the event that there is more than one study area identified per species per province (e.g. Eastern Cape), please indicate which area you would consider being of higher importance/significance for potential aquaculture development?
Your responses should be succinctly motivated.
The TAASA exco encourages you to provide feedback in this regard and to ensure that this information is made available to all freshwater aquaculture stakeholders.
TAASA will be formalising an official response. Should you want your views included in our response please email your feedback to firstname.lastname@example.org by close of business on Tuesday 28 March 2017.
