Dear fellow Tilapia farmers,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have shown the association during 2013. In the future, this year will be recognised as the time when tilapia farmers came together in order to gain formal recognition and make known the challenges they need addressed.

This past year has seen a flurry of regulations and policy documents produced by government, which have long-term bearing on freshwater aquaculture. While some of it is certainly promising, there are others which we are critical of and we are engaging with the relevant authorities in an effort to find practical solutions.

Rest assured there is a future for tilapia farming in this country and the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, shares this view. However, there is still much work that needs to be done and as farmers we need to show that we can consistently produce results.

In closing I would like to offer my thanks to my Exco team for their enthusiasm and acknowledge the contribution of a number of individual members during the course of the year.

On behalf of Exco I would like to wish you and your families a festive and blessed Christmas season and a happy and prosperous new year.

Regards

Frans
